From the Thursday, Sept. 18, 1958, Routt County Courier.

A rousing welcome to Steamboat Springs will be given to Aspencaders who arrive at 6 p.m. at the train depot Saturday. Volunteers from Steamboat are asked to help meet our visitors to escort them back to their respective hotels and motels. The high school's famous ski-band will provide visitors with a musical welcome.

Plans have been completed to make the Ninth Annual Aspencade the greatest ever, and with the cooperation of the weather, some 300 Aspencaders are sure to enjoy the magnificence and friendliness of this area.

The Chamber of Commerce emphasized our guests should buy their tickets in advance at the Chamber office in the Harbor Hotel. The entire cost for both days' festivities is only $28. People who arrive in their own cars Saturday morning may obtain a special rate, adults $10 and children $7.50, for the scenic bus to Hahn's Peak and dinner at the Seedhouse on Sunday.

Dinner rates for guests of local people who intend to drive to the Seedhouse are $3.50 each. Tickets should be obtained at the Chamber office before noon Saturday.

Tentative OK given to increases in town budget

The 1959 budget for the town of Steamboat Springs tentatively was approved by the Town Board on Monday evening with a one-mill increase in levy anticipated upon approval by the State Tax Commission.

If approved, the 1959 tax intake of the town will be $3,000 more than last year, bringing $46,000 in total tax collections.

Town Clerk Gates Gooding said rising costs of operations and planned improvement programs were reasons given by the Board for the one-mill levy increase. This is the first increase in many years.

The new Buicks show completely new lines and the display of the first 1959 cars is being watched with interest.
