Investigator: 2 arrested in kidnapping

Two men were arrested after a kidnapping Friday in far western Routt County, Sheriff's Office Investigator Ken Klinger said.

Klinger said he could not provide details about the incident because the investigation is ongoing. The victim was a boy, he said. The kidnapping occurred at or near a rest area on the Moffat-Routt line, near mile marker 101 on U.S. Highway 40, he said.

The victim escaped and is safe, Klinger said.

"A search warrant has been executed on the vehicle, looking for items of evidentiary value," he said.

Joey Allen Vreeman, 22, of Hayden, was arrested Friday on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, robbery, menacing and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Kenneth Edward Muhme, 30, of Hayden, also was arrested on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping and menacing.

Both were being held at Routt County Jail on Monday afternoon.

The incident "bounced back and forth between the rest stop and the town of Hayden," Klinger said. Other people also could be involved, he said.
