Tennis resumes play today

— After beating Durango, 5-2, on Thursday, the Steamboat Springs High School tennis team was able to advance two players to today's Western Slope Open tournament in Grand Junction.

The tournament features 18 top teams in the state.

No. 2 singles player Jeff Lambart and No. 3 singles player Keegan Burger each advanced to third place matches today against players from Chatfield.

Several doubles teams have the opportunity today to advance to fifth-place matches.

"The team had a solid day," Steamboat coach John Aragon said. "We're young, but overall it was solid."

Play resumes at 8 a.m. today with consolation play and fifth- and third-place matches. Championship matches take place at 11 a.m.

"I'm not sure where we'll finish," Aragon said. "I know we'll be in at least the top five."
