Steamboat volleyball crushes Summit

— The Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team continued its hot start Wednesday, easily beating Summit in three games.

The game - originally scheduled for Saturday - featured a competitive 25-23 first game, before the Sailors cleaned up their errors in the final two, winning 25-13 and 25-7.

"There were too many hitting errors in the first game," Steamboat coach Wendy Hall said. "We kept them in the game. We really cleaned it up in the second two and pulled away from them."

Steamboat (4-1 overall) was so dominant in the final game that only four Sailors needed to serve the ball.

"The most important thing is the girls' energy and enthusiasm with each other on the floor," Hall said.

With its preseason schedule out of the way, Steamboat opens up Western Slope League at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Glenwood Springs.

Hall said even with the long layoff, she expects Steamboat to do well. She said the team will focus on cleaning up its unforced errors and getting the ball in bounds no matter if they're in a good rhythm or not.

"I've enjoyed their hard work and attitude. That's what makes it fun," Hall said. "It's a treat to work with a bunch of girls that work together."
