Construction of the Haven Community Center is ambling along, and a Haven official said organizers hope to have it finished late this year.
The center sits on the eastern side of town next to the Haven Assisted Living Center and the site of the planned Hayden Police Station.
"They've been pouring sidewalks and getting the parking lot ready to go," Haven Administrator Karen Burley said. "That makes it seem even more real."
The Haven Community Center, which will be owned and operated by the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, will have a grand opening when the new building is ready, Burley said.
"It's absolutely on schedule," said Donna Hackley, program evaluation and special projects coordinator for the VNA. "We're 88 percent done : maybe 85."
TCD is the project's general contractor. Hackley said she was focusing on getting the construction finished rather than determining when the community center would be ready for programming.
"We have lots of hopes and goals here, and everything's been going great," she said.
The center will include an Internet cafe, a large meeting area, and spaces for physical therapy and exercise, Hackley said.
The center also will feature an expanded dining room for Haven residents and others, Burley said. That space will allow the Haven to serve all of its residents. The assisted living facility can serve 20 residents, she said.
"Our existing dining room doesn't serve all 20," Burley said. "This will give us the capacity to serve more meals so it will be more family-like."
The new dining room will be more than twice the size of the current area, she said.
The community center will include space for events, and the VNA plans to add an adult day care program. Anyone interested in scheduling an event or finding out about the program can contact the Haven, Burley said. Fees have not been set.
