It's come down to this for the Hayden High School football team.
With Friday's 48-14 loss at Hotchkiss, Hayden pretty much has to win the rest of its games to garner consideration for a wild card spot into the Class 1A state playoffs.
"We realize, going into the Meeker game, the winner of us and Meeker, at least for us because they still have a shot at Hotchkiss, needs to win this one to get one of those wild card spots to get into the playoffs," Hayden coach Shawn Baumgartner said.
On Friday, however, nothing went right for the Tigers.
Hotchkiss jumped out to a quick lead in the first half and never looked back. Besides a Jake Walker touchdown in the second quarter, Hayden had to play from behind all night.
"Defensively, we just didn't stop their option" Friday, Baumgartner said. "We knew we were going to have to stop their veer, and we didn't get it done" Friday.
Brian Hoza added a late touchdown for the Tigers, who dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in league play with the loss.
Hayden next plays at 7 p.m. on Friday at Meeker.
