Anthony, Merriman put aces in at hole No. 7
Steamboat Springs There must be something about the seventh hole at Haymaker Golf Course.
Twice in the past three weeks, locals have taken advantage of the last few rounds of the year by canning aces on No. 7 at the city-owned course.
On Sept. 19, Pat Anthony knocked in a hole-in-one at the par 3. Anthony used a 9 iron from 112 yards out on the forward tees.
On Monday, Eric Merriman aced No. 7 from 128 yards using a pitching wedge.
Steamboat softball falls to Basalt, 19-7
The Steamboat Springs High School softball team lost to Basalt, 19-7, on Wednesday.
Although both teams scraped out five hits in the game, it was the Sailors' five errors that made the difference.
"It was one of our better games," Steamboat coach Dan Swanson said. "We were able to get quite a few runners on, but we weren't able to capitalize."
Darcy Hornstein and Tyra Monger each had two hits for Steamboat, with Hornstein picking up a triple. Hornstein also threw a complete game on the mound.
"In general, the girls played really well," Swanson said.
