12:48 a.m. An officer was requested in the 3200 block of South Lincoln Avenue for a man whose credit card was declined. The man subsequently returned to pay his debt.

11:34 a.m. A civil complaint was made in the 1500 block of Mustang Run when the president of a homeowners association reported he was concerned about people trespassing on his complex as they walked to a bus stop. Police mediated the dispute.

1:54 p.m. Vandalism was reported in the 1300 block of Bob Adams Drive where a 20-year-old man reported key scratches on his truck. Police are investigating.

6:30 p.m. An accident was reported on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Seventh Street where a pickup ran into the back of a semitrailer, knocking off the pickup's side-view mirror. The pickup driver did not stop, and no damage was visible on the semi.

7:43 p.m. An ambulance was requested in Steamboat Springs for a man in his 40s who was suffering a diabetic incident. The party refused ambulance transport.

8:57 p.m. Harassment was reported in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue where a motel clerk was receiving unwanted advances from a guest. Police escorted the guest off the property to another hotel.

9:12 p.m. Gunshots were reported on Iron Horse Road in Hayden. Police were unable to locate the source of the noise.

10:22 p.m. Theft was reported in the 44000 block of Routt County Road 36 where two men allegedly were stealing items from parked vehicles. The men were apprehended and taken into custody.

10:32 p.m. Representatives from the Yampa Valley Medical Center reported an assault victim. The man was hit by an unknown party as he left a bar in downtown Steamboat, resulting in a black eye and small lacerations. No arrests have been made.

10:58 p.m. A suspicious person was reported near Laurel and Spruce streets. When police arrived, they found a minor urinating on a fence. He was ticketed for public urination and minor in possession and consumption. A sober driver arrived to take the minor home.

11:55 p.m. A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 2200 block of Bear Drive. Police found an individual sleeping in his car as the result of a financial dispute. Police informed the driver he could not sleep in his car overnight.

This is a much nicer place to live since the police started mediating civil disputes over issues such as trespassing.

Some people just need a cop to read them the rules. It's crazy, but it works.

Thanks to SSPD and RCSO for helping with these issues. It's the kind of "community policing" we see, appreciate and respect, and it sets expectations for kids and transients that the police will respond to "small stuff." That's what keeps the minor offenders in line and deters them from moving up to things like burglary and vandalism while we're at work.
