Hanrahan named Optimist Teen of Month

Steamboat Springs High School senior Meghan Hanrahan recently was named the Steamboat Optimist Club's Teen of the Month. Hanrahan has maintained a 3.7 cumulative grade point average through her junior year while being involved in many extracurricular activities.

Hanrahan plays on the school's soccer team and is part of El Pomar Youth in Community Service, the Culture Club, the Rotary Interact Club and the school's Leadership program. She has been a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, and her awards and honors include academic lettering, Excellence in WHISL, Excellence in Spanish, 2008 Yampa Valley Youth Philanthropist of the Year, honor roll, and attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp.

Hanrahan also has given back to her community through Save the Rainforest fundraisers, singing Christmas carols at the Doak Walker Care Center, helping build the new elementary school playgrounds, attending the Rotary District Conference, Save Darfur fundraisers, Vision 2030, Integrated Community, Yampa Valley Science School, Art in the Park, Ski Swap, Relay for Life and others.

Hanrahan hopes to be accepted to the Aveda Institute of Denver for cosmetology. She foresees a life of philanthropy and community service, particularly working with youths.
