Success Steps focuses on tough economic times

— Colorado Mountain College and SCORE are presenting a Success Steps lunch Thursday called "Sit Deep, Hold on and Keep Your Eyes Up," which is about helping small businesses weather challenging economic times. Christina Haxton will give the presentation. Haxton runs HorseSense Team Building, using equine animals to teach leadership skills for the workplace.

The luncheon is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Steamboat Smokehouse, 912 Lincoln Ave. It costs $15, and those who want to attend are asked to call Randy at 870-4491.

Bob Peterson named Builder of the Year

The Colorado Association of Home Builders has named Bob Peterson as 2008 Colorado Builder of the Year, according to a news release. Peterson received the award in October at the annual Rocky Mountain Builders Conference in Beaver Creek. Peterson and his wife, Rita, own Associates in Building and Design, of Fort Collins. The business specializes in custom homes, remodeling and interior design. It has worked on buildings in Steamboat Springs.

First National Bank joins financial literacy group

First National Bank of the Rockies has announced that it is the first bank on the Western Slope to join the Colorado JumpStart Coalition. The nonprofit group represents business, government and education and works to improve the personal financial literacy of Colorado youths, according to a news release.

"Being a member of the Coalition makes sense for us," Bank President and CEO Pete Waller said in the release. "FNBR is committed to empowering young people to make smart decisions early in life so as to not make mistakes with their money as adults."

First National Bank of the Rockies employees have incorporated games into lessons about saving, earning interest, how to create a budget and differentiate between needs and wants, the release stated.
