Steamboat Springs The end of campaign season looks as if it will usher in the beginning of winter.
Steamboat Springs is under a winter storm warning from 6 p.m. today through 3 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service forecasts between 5 and 10 inches of snow falling in city limits.
Temperatures should drop throughout the day as a cold front moves into the region from northeastern Utah. Rain, possibly mixed with snow, is predicted today and tonight before turning to all snow sometime after 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Tonight's low is forecast at 26 degrees. Winds also will accompany the storm, with gusts between 10 and 20 mph.
There is an 80 percent chance of snow Wednesday. The system is expected to leave the region late Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The skies should clear in time for the weekend, with high temperatures Saturday and Sunday in the low 50s or upper 40s.
Mount Werner and Rabbit Ears Pass could see significantly more snow, with 8 to 14 inches forecast at higher elevations.
