Rotary Club names student of the month
Daniel Wright, a senior at The Lowell Whiteman School, is the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club's Student of the Month for October. Daniel is the son of Teresa and Dr. Jack Wright, of Steamboat Springs. He was honored at a Rotary meeting Oct. 21.
Wright is a member of the National Honor Society, with strong interests in studying drama and French. He attended seventh and eighth grades at a school outside of Paris and is fluent in French. Next fall, he is planning to attend college and has Colby College in Maine and Denver University on his short list, among others.
Wright is an avid soccer player, starting at age 5 in his native Cheyenne, Wyo., and continuing through several clubs and schools while in France and at Lowell Whiteman School. Playing college soccer is among his goals. In addition to school and soccer, Wright finds time to assist other youths through coaching at the Steamboat Soccer Academy and volunteering with Partners in Routt County.
Rotary Student Coordinator PJ Wharton presented the Student of the Month honors to Wright. "Daniel is a great role model for classmates with his academic and athletic achievements. His community service represents the spirit of Rotary, and we are proud to recognize his effort," Wharton said.
Optimist Club names student of the month
Meghan Hanrahan, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, was named student of the month by the Steamboat Springs Optimist Club. Hanrahan plays soccer and is the president of the Rotary Interact Club. She was selected because of her community involvement and grades.
Alex E. Chotvacs graduates from ROTC
Steamboat Springs High School graduate Alex E. Chotvacs has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Kent. Chotvacs is a student at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He is the son of Earl and D.J. Chotvacs, of Steamboat Springs.
