Steamboat briefs for May 30

— Library parking lot closing for construction

Beginning Monday, the parking lot behind Bud Werner Memorial Library will be closed until further notice for paving of new sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Parking will remain available at the library's main entrance on 13th Street, Lincoln Park, the Depot Art Center, the Stock Bridge Transit Center and Little Toots Park. Ample bicycle parking also is available. The 23,400-square-foot, $11.4 million library expansion is scheduled for completion late this summer. Call 879-0240 for more information.

Routt County Road 129 closure continues

County officials have formalized and extended the closure of Routt County Road 129 for a 10.2-mile stretch from Columbine to 3 Forks Ranch. Local and emergency vehicles may travel the stretch, but commercial and through traffic is prohibited.

The stretch was first closed last week because of a flooding Elk River. On Tuesday, the Routt County Board of Commissioners approved a seasonal closure of 90 days that is allowed by state statute to prevent roads from sustaining serious damage because of rain, snow or other climatic conditions. County officials say such damage would be costly to repair.
