The Steamboat Springs Rotary Club has named Steamboat Springs High School senior Jessica Fox its Student of the Month for May 2008.
Fox recently received the award during a Rotary meeting at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel.
SSHS guidance counselor Kelle Schmidt and science teacher Cynthia Gay nominated Fox.
"She has tremendous potential to succeed at any level of academia and has shown incredible leadership skills," Schmidt said.
Fox has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, has been on the High Academic Honor Roll every semester and is a member of the National Honor Society.
She is the captain of her hockey team, has received SCUBA diving certification and is actively pursuing certification as a hot air balloon pilot.
She organized the high school's Homecoming Parade this year and put together a team that participated in the Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
Jessica plans to pursue a degree in pre-medicine that will prepare her for a career as a medical doctor.
"We are very proud to honor Jessica as our Rotary Student of the Month," Rotary president Sandy Evans Hall said.
