Volunteers, old bikes needed for bike donation program

The "Giving Bikes Back" program, sponsored by Home ReSource, the Community Alliance of the Yampa Valley, Wheels and Orange Peel Bicycle Service, hosts two upcoming events to provide bicycles for local children, adults and community organizations.

A Bicycle Roundup Day is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot next to Orange Peel, where donated bicycles and bike parts will be accepted. On May 31, Home ReSource asks volunteers to fix up old bikes at its Milner location.

Wheels and Orange Peel bikes shops already have volunteered time and materials to help refurbish some bikes. Partners in Routt County, LIFT-UP and The Boys and Girls Club of Craig have expressed interest in receiving more. These events will help meet these needs.

Call 846-3638 or e-mail staff@salvageit.org for more information. An RSVP from volunteers will help planning for enough food and drinks.

Rio Stampede race pushed back until August

The 2008 Rio Stampede 12- and six-hour endurance races are postponed until Aug. 9, 2008, because of adverse conditions caused by enormous amounts of melting snowpack.

Registration remains open until Aug. 8. If you already have registered for the event, you will be contacted directly. Feel free to contact Rocky Peak Productions at 879-0480, riostampede@springsips.com, or visit http://rockypeakproductions.com.
