— Charlie Stoddard's second-place finish in the mile and third-place finish in the 100-meter dash highlighted Steamboat's track and field meet in Rangely on Saturday.

With only nine of the team's 40 athletes in attendance, Steamboat also got a sixth-place finish from Colby Kostur in the high jump, an eighth-place finish from Dylan Pivarnik in the long jump and an eighth-place finish from Gus Allen in the two-mile race.

"We keep getting better every week," Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. "We're a little dinged up right now, but we'll be fine."

With two weeks before spring break, Steamboat now will start to see much of the same competition the team will see at regionals. Steamboat continues action Saturday at Eagle Valley before heading to Battle Mountain on April 8 and Glenwood Springs on April 12. "It's been good," DeWolfe said. "They're coming along and they're working hard. You can't ask for much more than that. It's all part of the process but so far, so good."
