Denver studies Yampa water project

From the Thursday, April 4, 1968, edition of The Steamboat Pilot:
The Denver Water Board began an investigation Tuesday into the possibilities of developing a major new water project from the Yampa River watershed to Colorado's Western Slope.
The board authorized a study by the Denver engineering consulting firm of W.W. Wheeler & Associates, at a cost of $15,000 to $25,000, of the proposed Yampa River water upheld by the Colorado Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.
The decree was based on original filings in the Yampa watershed by the late John P. Elliott, the Denver engineer who formed the Four County Water Users Association. Elliott was the architect of the Homestake Project for Colorado Springs and Aurora, on the Eagle River watershed.
Leckenby: Political horse race under way
The world of politics has taken some radical changes in the past few weeks and the biggest bombshell was President Johnson stating he is not going to run for another term.
His speech Sunday night was one of the most sincere he has made and the decision not to run must have come hard for a man who has devoted his life to politics. Why did he decide not to run? This is anybody's guess right now.
Johnson can now at least devote the rest of his time in office to trying to solve the problems at hand. I question whether he will be as effective with everyone knowing that he will be finished come the election in November, but time will tell.
It seems that Kennedy will be the front runner for the Democratic nomination. The magic name "Kennedy," his organization and his money make him a hard man to beat.
Nixon at this time seems to be a cinch for the Republican nomination. With Johnson out of the picture, this seems to me to improve Nixon's chances except for the fact that he has no appeal to the independent voter.
There are seven months left before the November elections and many things can happen.
Humphrey could come along as a strong contender, but to me he lacks the strength to do so. McCarthy has strong backing for his stance on Vietnam, but I bet Johnson has the Vietnam problem solved by convention time and this will leave McCarthy nothing to stand on.
It is going to be an interesting political year.
