Steamboat Springs A Steamboat Springs man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a female acquaintance Monday at his condominium.
The man, 32, was arrested and booked into Routt County Jail early Thursday morning on suspicion of third-degree sexual assault, a Class 3 felony, and second-degree false imprisonment, a Class 2 misdemeanor. If convicted on both charges, he could face up to 13 years in prison.
The alleged attack was first reported to the Steamboat Springs Police Department on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman was out with friends early Monday morning when the suspect, whom she had known for about eight months, approached her and asked for a ride home, according to sworn police affidavits. The woman obliged and agreed to come inside his residence to visit with another friend, the affidavits state.
After the other friend fell asleep, the suspect asked the woman if she wanted to see what he bought during a recent trip to Denver, according to the affidavits. He then led her to a bedroom, where the alleged assault took place.
The man is being held at the Routt County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is due to appear in Routt County Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
