Lavington named Rotary Student of the Month

— Victoria Lavington, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, is the Rotary Club's Student of the Month for March of 2008. She is the daughter of Matthew Lavington and Patricia Buckles of Tree Haus Road in Steamboat Springs. She was honored at a March 18 meeting of the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club.

Victoria was a Rotary summer exchange student in 2007, traveling to Valencia, Spain. Foreign environs are nothing new for her. She has lived with her family in Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Peru before moving to Steamboat Springs as a high school freshman.

"Victoria's experiences living abroad, her open mind, her endless curiosity and intrinsic drive make her one of the most unique individuals I have ever taught," SSHS Social Studies teacher Meghan Hanson said.

Lavington is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and editor of the high school yearbook.

Rotary student coordinator P.J. Wharton presented Student of the Month honors to Victoria.

"She has been a wonderful asset to her school, her community and her family," Wharton said.
