Smyser takes Eagle County job

Interim Steamboat Springs Superintendent Sandra Smyser has been hired as superintendent of the Eagle County School District.

The news comes two days after Smyser was named as one of four finalists for the full-time superintendent position in Steamboat. She was hired in mid-September to replace former head of schools Donna Howell for the duration of the 2007-08 school year.

Smyser's hiring was first reported by the Vail Daily and confirmed Wednesday evening by Steamboat Springs School Board member Denise Connelly.

"I see so much potential here," Smyser told the Vail Daily. "I'm looking forward to being here."

Smyser will start her position in Eagle County on July 1.

No thanks to the current board for not continuing Smyser's contract. I really appreciated Smyser's demeanor and gracious candor in school board meetings. The great one got away.

Once again Steamboat Springs screws up again!!!!! I love how we spend $$ on advertising, and Head Hunters. When the GOOD one was right here all along!!!!! What a waste!!!! I will miss Smyser...a real Classy Lady!!!! Wonder what we'll wind up with next???? 2nd Best????? Typical Steamboat!!!!

a good one didn't get away. she wasn't working for the school district, just getting paid from the school district. employees in the schools saw her once - the day she introduced herself. what a waste of money. she brought zero value to the district.

Do the other candidates have aps in elsewhere? Maybe the board should move a little slower, it would make their decision easier because the good ones will get snatched up by other districts and the board will have it narrowed down to a few that are unwanted elsewhere.

Good luck Smyser, hope you enjoy eagle county.

HMMMM, Where did you get your facts? I expect that if this is news to me it will be news to a lot more of our locals. Also, why was she getting paid by the district if she was not working for the district? Was our school $$$$$ being misappropriated? Your input is always appreciated. Please give some facts to support your statement. I am quite sure that the facts will be of interest to all.
