— A fire damaged two units in the Vista Verde Townhomes in Hayden on Friday afternoon. No one was injured.

The fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Vista Verde Drive in the garage of the manager's unit, West Routt Fire Chief Bryan Rickman said.

The man had apparently been smoking a cigar in his music room in the garage about 45 minutes before the fire started, Rickman said. The cigar is believed to be the source of the fire, he said.

"That was the only source of ignition we could come up with," Rickman said.

The man had left his residence, but his wife called him back after she smelled smoke in the house, Rickman said. The man opened the garage door to investigate, which fueled the flames and caused them to spread from the garage, he said.

"It came out the garage door and essentially went up the side of the building," Rickman said.

Firefighters from the West Routt Fire Protection District responded to the scene and were able to contain the flames in about 20 minutes.

The manager's unit sustained "considerable damage" and is uninhabitable, Rickman said. The neighboring unit also suffered minor exterior damage.
