Steamboat Springs lacrosse falls to Columbine, 9-1, in opener

Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse coach Bob Hiester said he wasn't surprised his team was caught off guard Friday in its season opener, a 9-1 loss to Columbine at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.

The Steamboat Springs School District hosts a Parent Academy event, focused on underage drug and alcohol use and abuse, March 18 at Steamboat Springs High School. A free dinner begins at 5 p.m., followed by a discussion with John Underwood of the American Athletic Institute from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Underwood is familiar with the pressures and challenges particular to resort communities concerning underage drinking. He is involved with research about the detrimental effects of alcohol and substance abuse on young people's minds, bodies, and school and athletic performance.
