Steamboat Springs Although the state skiing championships are in the book, the efforts of some local athletes still are catching notice across Colorado.
Six Steamboat Springs High School skiers made the Colorado High School Activities Association all-state team, including Kris Allen and Missy Krause, who were double entrants on the list.
Allen made the all-state lists in slalom and giant slalom, while Krause made the skate and classic portions of the list.
Other Steamboat skiers to earn all-state honors include Jace Wirth in the giant slalom, and Hanna Berglund, Sarah Dixson and Linnea Dixson in the slalom.
Nordic skiers Mary Rose and Kyle Steitz just missed the classic and skate all-state lists, by mere points.
All-state selections are based on results from the regular season and the state meet, where points counted double.
"It really is exciting," Steamboat Alpine coach Chad Bowdre said. "It is always an honor when kids are named on the all-state team."
Allen used a third-place finish at the state meet to vault into an all-state position. Krause was consistently good, finishing fourth in skate and sixth in classic at the state meet.
