Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs High School Principal Mike Knezevich said Wednesday that he hopes to have a new boys basketball coach in place next week.
Knezevich said there are "multiple finalists" for the position and that a panel of administrators, coaches, students and parents will interview potential candidates.
"We have a significant pool," Knezevich said. "We'll start interviewing next week."
Other job openings at SSHS include head-coaching positions in girls softball and Alpine skiing and an assistant coach position for girls basketball.
Knezevich said he hopes to fill the positions as soon as possible with the right candidates.
"We're looking for the most qualified and best coach for our kids," Knezevich said. "And that's what we'll get."
In Hayden, Athletics Director Kevin Kleckler said Hayden High School is still looking for a head and assistant coach for girls volleyball. Hayden also is looking for a new athletics director to take over for Kleckler, who is leaving to lead the new Babson-Carpenter Career and Technical Education Center, a vocational facility for regional high school students.
Until then, Kleckler will help fill the positions. He said he plans to interview one person for the head coaching position in the next week.
"If this guy turns out to be as good as he is on paper and the telephone, we'll have a new coach," Kleckler said.
Soroco High School has two head-coaching positions open and two assistant-coaching positions open.
Rams Athletics Director Andy Johnson said he is searching for girls basketball and wrestling head coaches, as well as football and track assistant coaches.
"We're still trying to fill teaching vacancies," Johnson said. "So we're playing the waiting game."
