The Steamboat Lightning youth swim team finished the season much like it began the season.
Hot.
Steamboat placed numerous swimmers in the top three at the Western Slope Championships in Grand Junction and saw almost all of its swimmers drop time off their personal bests.
Those winning at the event included: Amy Brodie in the 50-yard freestyle, Samantha Terranova in the 200-yard free and Tatum Burger in the 50-yard free.
Other top finishers were Madison Ruppel, who picked up a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 fly and 50 fly; Avery Harrington, who finished second in the 50 free and 100 individual medley; Amanda Walker, who finished third in the 50 free; Finn O'Connell, who finished second in the 100 fly; and Margaret Lichtenfels, who finished second in the 200 free.
Frank Ruppel also cleaned up, picking up second-place finishes in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 back, 200 individual medley and 50 fly.
He also finished third in the 50 free and 100 back.
Pirates get bronze at softball tournament
The Routt County Pirates picked up bronze medals at the Mile High Summer Classic Softball Tournament on July 20.
The team - made up of 11 adults, ages 16 or older, with developmental disabilities - went to the tournament in Lakewood for the second year.
In addition to the tournament, the team practiced for a month prior working on skills and the nuances of the game, with coaching from second-year volunteer Chris Kuxhaus.
Last year, the team went 1-2 in Grand Junction.
