Woman's bicycle accident highlights helmet use

A female bicyclist fell from her bike Thursday afternoon and then suffered a seizure, authorities said. The woman, who was not named, fell on Spring Creek Trail near Dry Creek Campground, Routt County Search and Rescue volunteer Darrel Levingston said.

"One of her statements that really hit me is that she always wears a helmet - this time, she wasn't," Levingston said.

He could not release information about the woman's injuries, but he said she was alert after the accident and taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Levingston encouraged other bicyclists to wear helmets.

"We're in the height of our biking season," he said. "Helmets are a huge issue."
