Fireworks blast Steamboat

— Fireworks rocked Steamboat Springs on Friday night, but questions remained about the finale.

Five-hundred seventy-six fireworks were expected to be set off at the same time during the show's finale from the conductor's podium at Howelsen Hill Lodge, and it was unclear Friday night whether that had happened.

For more information about the finale, check today and read the Steamboat Pilot & Today on Sunday.

While it was a great show, I was wondering what happened to the finale. We couldn't tell, to be honest. As many fireworks as they set off, it looked like the whole show was finale-worthy. We saw the whole thing right from out deck in Silver Spur. Love not having to drive home afterward!

The abupt end probably had something to do with the fire at the base of the judging tower.

Brian and I were so stunned by what seemed to be the Finale in the middle of the show...that it took us a few minutes and a quick call to the Fireworks team to infact realize that the show was over. Scott said it in a pre-fireworks's not an exact science...but all have to was the biggest collection of huge fireworks up in the air over steamboat in the towns history.

After so many years doing it...maybe the Fireworks Team is showing us a new trend..wouldn't be the first time Routt County stepped out front. I think we're all just lucky to have a Fireworks Committee that is and has been so dedicated to ensuring that Routt County get's one heck of a show each year...and the addition of Stagecoach's show this year is a super bonus!

It was a great show. We watched it from the howelson ball field and the "fire fall," as named by the drunken teenagers we were next to, was very cool. I am continually impressed by the firework shows that get put on every year here in Steamboat.

Watching the fireworks above town, it did seem something went awry at the end of the show.... the tamer display just before the lull that we thought would usher in the finale, the truck that appeared to be racing up the switchbacks to the top of Howelson, the music still playing on the radio, the lights remaining dim in the arena....

Or maybe this is the new 'trend' at the firework conventions... skip the finale.

Up till the perceived premature ending, the display was excellent, nicely timed, with beautiful pictures in the sky. Nicely done!

A good friend of ours was working the fireworks show (setting up/setting off the actual fireworks) and texted me at the end, "One whole station didn't go above us". Sounds like something went wrong, but it was still a wonderful event!!

woo South Routt! Yampa fireworks were nice and slow but rhythmic, and a wonderful finale. Stagecoach had a great first year of fireworks. A few residents shot several off but the real show was really great! Can't wait for next year!
