Steamboat Pentathlon registration offered
Steamboat Springs City parks and recreation officials are accepting registrations for the 17th annual Steamboat Pentathlon, to take place March 1. Registration for the five-stage, multi-sport winter race is offered at a discount rate until Feb. 19. The race includes alpine skiing or snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and running, with standard and short courses. Enter a team or as an individual. All entries include an event T-shirt and lunch. For a registration form, stop by the department's office on Howelsen Parkway or visit www.steamboatpentathlon.com. Call 879-4300 with questions.
Parade entries, volunteers sought for Winter Carnival
All those interested in participating in the Winter Carnival Parade at about 11:30 a.m. Feb. 10, after the completion of street events on Lincoln Avenue, must turn in entry forms to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club by Feb. 1. Forms can be picked up at the WSC offices, upstairs in the Howelsen Lodge at 845 Howelsen Parkway. Call 879-0695.
The WSC is also seeking volunteers to sell buttons the week of Winter Carnival, primarily Feb. 9. Support staff for button sellers and for street events also are needed. Anyone interested can contact Kami at 879-8450 or kamisswsc@gmail.com.
GOCO hosting grant assistance workshop
Great Outdoors Colorado will host a technical assistance workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Centennial Hall on 10th Street. Part of a statewide outreach program, the workshop will help organizations applying for GOCO/Lottery grants, which can be used to fund local government park, outdoor recreation and environmental education facilities projects, including ballfields, playgrounds and skate parks.
