Akkad named Rotary Student of the Month
Ahmad Akkad, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, was named the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club's January Student of the Month.
Akkad and his mother, Wendy, attended last week's Rotary meeting at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel to receive the award.
"Ahmad maintains an excellent academic standard, and he is also distinguished in the senior class for his character and leadership," Rotary Club member Dan Callahan said.
Akkad is an officer of the school's Honor Council, and he helps with the organization of council activities as well as presiding over the proceedings.
Akkad also helps mentor the younger students on the Council and make them feel comfortable in their role with their peers.
Steamboat Springs High School officials who recommended Akkad said, "He is a respected leader in our school and was chosen by his peers as a captain of the football team this year, illustrating his commitment to his teammates and their respect for him."
Akkad has participated in track, football and lacrosse in addition to his appointment on the Honor Council. He also is the manager at Wildhorse Cinema.
Akkad plans to join his older sister at Colorado State University this fall, where he will study computer engineering.
"We are very proud to honor Ahmad as our Rotary Student of the Month," Rotary President Sandy Evans Hall said.
