Board of Education: Student success

It is with great honor that we share some of the latest news from our district. Based on our CSAP scores, the Colorado Department of Education has ranked Steamboat Springs RE-2 as the 4th highest performing school district in the state. This has occurred while maintaining a favorable financial position. Our recent audit confirms that we are operating well within the boundaries of sound fiscal protocols. For more detailed information about our district's performance, please look for our Annual Report that will be arriving in your mail later this month or visit our website, www.sssd.k12.co.us. The combined efforts of many individuals are having a significant impact on the education of our community's young people.

District employees contribute to our learning environment and support high academic goals. Support staff, teachers and administrators all play an important role in our high-performing organization. We would like to recognize and thank the district's many employees for their continued focus on students' needs.

The Steamboat Springs School District would not be able to operate as effectively without the significant support provided from our community. Our parent, family and community volunteers provide diverse services that make a difference for our youths. The community at large has repeatedly approved funding including the 1/2 cent sales tax, recent bond issue and mill levy override that vastly contribute to our students' academic achievements.

As we move into 2008, we invite you to join with us in continuing to improve the Steamboat Springs School District. We are participating in two important statewide initiatives that will benefit from broad community input; assessing appropriate graduation requirements and identifying the 21st century skills that will equip future generations to thrive in a changing world. In addition to these, we have commenced the process of hiring a permanent superintendent. We will be working with the community throughout the selection process and value your views and participation.

We are committed to working with the community to provide the best education possible for our youths while maintaining a positive financial position. We look forward to your continuing support. Thank you for contributing to the excellence of the Steamboat Springs School District.

Sincerely,

The Steamboat Springs RE-2 Board of Education
