Avalanche clinic in need of volunteers for weekend

Volunteers are needed for this weekend's Ski Haus Avalanche Clinic, which begins with a slideshow and lecture from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center at 7 p.m. Friday at the Depot Art Center. Saturday and Sunday field sessions will be held at the Fox Curve on Rabbit Ears Pass. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to teach basic avalanche safety. The clinic covers the basics: beacon use, probing, digging someone out, running a primary, secondary and pinpoint search, avalanche terrain identification and avoidance, and understanding avalanche reports.

Volunteers will meet at Ski Haus at 8 a.m. and caravan to Fox Curve. Skis or snowshoes are required. Interested volunteers should call Patrick Meyer at 846-5728.
