Binetti named Optimist Teen of the Month

Steamboat Springs High School senior Margot Binetti has been named the Optimist Club Teen of the Month for December. Binetti, 18, is an active participant in 4-H, with which she does highway cleanups, volunteers at the Routt County Fair, and helps with coat drives and food bank drives.

Binetti, a resident of Hayden, commutes to Steamboat Springs each day to attend school. Steamboat Springs High School college and career counselor Gayle Dudley, who nominated Binetti for the honor, said Binetti chose to come to Steamboat because of the increased opportunities to take advanced classes.

"As a student, Margot challenges herself to a rigorous schedule," Dudley said. "As a senior, Margot is taking three (Advanced Placement) classes, chemistry, French IV and is an aide in the college center."

Dudley added that she is hard pressed to include all of Binetti's extracurricular activities.

"I am amazed by the depth of her involvement, from being a grand champion in 4-H garment construction at the state fair, to riding motorcycles and hunting and trap showing with her father," she said. "Margot has also helped younger students in 4-H as a junior leader, been in Girl Scouts for 10 years, participated in dance classes and performances since she was 7, (and) has played the piano for 14 years and the tenor saxophone since middle school."
