— With just more than a week left for its annual fundraising campaign, Routt County United Way is doing a final push to raise the $25,000 remaining to meet its goal by the end of the month.

United Way set its 2007 fundraising goal at $600,000 - $50,000 more than its previous target - and the campaign is 95 percent complete with only $25,000 left to raise, Executive Director Mark Andersen said.

With the money donated so far, Routt County United Way has raised more funds than any other year in its 25-year history, Andersen said.

"We have many generous people in the community who have increased their support, and that's why we've been able to raise so much," Andersen said. "We're very fortunate to be in a giving community."

The 2007 fundraising goal was raised to match increasing needs in the community fueled by population growth, Routt County United Way President Roberta Gill said.

"The diversity in the population is expanding, second-home owners are increasing, our town's population is increasing overall - along with that comes increased demand for service and basic structural needs," Gill said. "Health care needs expand, school needs expand - any kind of human service needs expand."

United Way recently completed its annual allocations to its member organizations, which include the American Red Cross, Integrated Community, Humble Ranch Education and Therapy Center, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and First Impressions of Routt County, a support group for early childhood programs.

United Way gave back $512,000 to member programs across Routt County, affording each organization a 5 percent increase over last year's allocation. Further donations will be used for supplemental funding cycles outside the annual allocation process.
