Don Mathes: Headline shameful

Your headline on the ViewPoints op-ed page Feb. 13 - "God does not favor the Jewish people" - is totally misleading and blatantly anti-Semitic.

You used part of a sentence in a letter, took it out of context, and totally distorted what the writer of that letter wanted to say. That is unconscionable for a paper that purports to be objective and a forum for multiple "viewpoints."

The full sentence read "...the God that I believe in created all people equal and does not favor the Jewish people over any other." That is a far cry from the meaning in your headline; indeed, that headline is a far cry from the meaning and purpose of a thoughtful and positive letter that your headline also totally distorts.

Your editors ought to be ashamed - and more careful in the future.

As most major communications departments throughout academia are overwhelmingly staffed by Liberal-Left faculty, no one should be surprised that the product which they turn out is also overwhelmingly Liberal-Left. In the last presidential election, over 90% of press and media reporters voted for the Democratic candidate, Al Gore.

Wow freshair you all ways seem to get your panties in a knot when someone jokes with you, did you have a rough childhood or what?
Just so that you join the rest of us. John Kerry was the democratic candidate in the last election.

Fresh and fish this isn't about left or right wing it is about people who live in our town and run down others every day and try to put a negative slant on whatever they can and who they don't like or the point of views they don't support. They are real people in our town irregardless of their political stance. they are suzanne schlicht and brent boyer and brinna larson and even scot standford still even though he was demoted.

Don't say leftwing and rightwing name the people who are reasponsible for the stuff they write not kerry or gore or some writer from NY or Washington or LA or anywhere else. They are the people who work for the pilot and who live in our town who are doing this writing and slanting and baiting and causing problems and hate for other people who don't think like they do. Remember who writes the paper here in our town of Steamboat and be angry with them.

Fish, it makes no difference who the democratic candidate is, he/she still gets over 90% of the media reporters vote. Kerry, Gore, or Obama, same difference.

Letomayo, to be a graduate of any university communications department almost always guarantees that person to be of a Liberal-Left secular and anti-established religion perspective. So there is nothing unusual in any reporter for any newspaper leading with a headline calculated to offend people of religious faith.

Interestingly, when it comes to Islamo-fascism and fundamentalism, the same American media with few exceptions, toes the Politically Correct line and spins any negativity relating to muslims as the product of racism.

You mean you can't "irregard" something? Maybe "disregardless?"

From Dictionary.com

ir*re*gard*less (Är'Ä-gärd'lÄs) Pronunciation Key
adv. Nonstandard
Regardless.

[Probably blend of irrespective and regardless.]

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

condoguy1 irregardless of your comment you knew what I meant and that is what you and others like you don't understand that if you can understand the message then focus on that and not the words that are said. Freshair As long as your at it focus on the pilot staff that writes the garbage that you read about other people and I didn't know that if you went to school for communication it almost guarantees anything that a person writes what they want and that is that. If these people who are at the pilot write leftwing stuff that you don't like why not use there names and not use the leftwing right wing arguement maybe they could understand that it is them you are talking about instead of some general BS. Those people at the paper are witing the stuff so tell them by name you don't like it. The other stuff you write is not even important to the argument.

Hunterdog, if you possessed all the required cards in your upper deck, you would understand from everything ever posted under my name on the subject of 'religion' and a 'creator' that I neither negate or affirm any possibility of a 'God', Cosmic Life Force' or however one defines such.

Fishie, the only 'expertness' I will admit to is having a highly developed BS and VM detector. I'm afraid you are presently stuck in the verbal masturbatory division as, to date, you have not shown any evidence of possessing that flowing and rythmic tempo required to advance to BS status.
