Roger Watson: Epley misinformed

— In Paul Epley's column from Jan. 27, he attempts to lay the deaths of millions of people from malaria at the feet of the environmental movement. But what he does not say is as important as what he does. He is not writing from any great concern about malaria deaths but instead from an attempt to malign what he himself calls "eco-Nazis" and "whackos." He is just using this issue as another vehicle for that purpose.

One of the things he leaves out of his article is that DDT has never been completely banned for public health measures and is, in fact, being used in Africa and Asia. Also omitted from Mr. Epley's writing was the fact that both the Sierra Club and Environmental Defense have supported a program of limited spraying. It seems that when widespread application was being used, hundreds of species of mosquitoes were becoming resistant to the effects of DDT.

Also, he points out that the Congress of Racial Equality held a conference on how the environmental movement was perpetuating poverty and misery through its policies. What he leaves out is that CORE is a far right-wing group whose members include Paul Driessen, who is a consultant to many anti-environmental corporate think tanks and has received funding from Exxon-Mobil to spin information on climate change, and Roy Innis, who was a vocal supporter of the Reagan administration and is a member of the board of directors of the NRA. CORE's political leanings are such that for its 2005 Martin Luther King celebration, they honored Karl Rove and also Hugh Grant, who just happens to be CEO of Monsanto (the first producer of DDT in the U.S.).

DDT used in limited applications probably is a good tool for fighting malaria in developing nations, and it is being used for this purpose. But the fact remains that many other measures need to be used in conjunction with pesticides. Also, the fact is that much of Africa suffers from political uncertainty that undermines even basic health care - something that has to be taken into consideration. Other issues, such as AIDS, famine, over population and global warming resulting in massive drought, have caused Africa much misery despite Mr. Epley's lack of concern for these issues and his outright denial of these problems.

The best thing a person can do when reading the opinions of a conservative pundit such as Paul Epley is to educate oneself on the issues and make up one's own mind, whether it be climate change, health care, poverty, tax reform or any of the issues that face the world. And with conservatives like Mr. Epley, it's important to follow the money.

Is Epley an idiot or is it svbor or maybe its both. are either man doing anything real to help in the malaria crisis or are they just trying to sound like they have the answers and if they have the answers then they should do something more then write a stupid letter to the editor her in steamboat. Maybe they should go on a world wide tour and tell the story and even on channel 18 are best tv station in steamboat and they could win the next Noble peace prize.

sbvor-You are like a volcano, spewing links. This is an article about malaria and DDT. You have to turn EVERYTHING into a global warming tirade. Good Grief. Give it a rest. If someone has an opinion, they are entitled to it, and do not need to have 50 links to prove it. It is an opinion. I think you need to get off your soapbox and get out more, and no-I am not going to give you 50 links to prove it. It is just my opinion.

And here I thought I wasn't deserving of a response. Another hypocritical lie from the Bore? Why should today be any different.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_.........

Opening Paragraph: "National and international science academies and professional societies have assessed the current scientific opinion on climate change, in particular recent global warming. These assessments have largely followed or endorsed the IPCC position that "An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system... There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities".[1]"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intergovern...

The IPCC bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific literature. [3]"

"...mainly on PEER REVIEWED AND PUBLISHED SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE."

Refuted yet again.

And there was no name calling except the quote of Epley's remarks, idiot. Taking it a little close to heart, hmmmm?

Wassamatta, Bore? Afraid to being wrong when challenged? You always challenge and yet take none yourself. You are a hypocrite of the worst kind, and you are normally out of touch with reality.

You claim to be local but can't prove it when bitching about local issues. You don't debate; you just repeat the same BS over and over again, convincing yourself only. When refuted, the best you can come up with is "They're liars!" or "They're liberals." Yet you tend to quote Conservative sites like Town Hall or National Review all the time. No partisanship there. How "Hannity" of you.

You attack and name call, yet cry "Ad hominem" when someone does the same to you. You said I lied when detailing your pitiful "Someone stole my identity!!!" bitching yet deny being caught in a lie most likely due to Alzheimers.

You also bitch about being taken out of context when making a fool of yourself (as usual) even when directly quoted...with the link to it. Then you have to backpedal to "explain" it better. Funny- you just bitched about the exact same thing above.

You are a sad statement for a facsimile of a human being and a drain on society as a whole since all you can do is bitch and not take any type of pro-active approach to anything, except drink from the contaminated Fool-Aid of Epley's Cult. I could probably provide a picture of you bathing in it. Too bad I relieved myself in that well before you did.

Not yet. That will come soon! Already started letting my close friends know your identity. Do you feel better now? Even mtroach knows you, but that came from you alone, evidently.

You're not as well hidden as you think. The internet...well, computers in general, can find a lot more than just links to other people's thoughts.

More importantly, that one time you brought my Mom into it...I made sure I'd know who to come see. Feel better NOW?

I think Kielbasa just kicked it up a notch with the "Hayden".

Gollygeewillackers! Do you mean this possible consequence?

"Pretty soon, I will make myself get banned by posting addy, phone, and name of the Bore. Not yet- but a pic will probably surface soon. Just never know when I'll decide to do it. 2 other people share this secret with me and that's all...for now. Bore's "pretty sure" I don't know..."pretty sure." Evidently, not sure enough. Sucks to think your anonymous when really not. It means you CAN be held accountable for what you say, but only when I deem it the right time to do so."

Already planned for, thank you very much.

Don't worry. I don't have to guess! LOL! Why do you think I made the Plame comment: you diminished that one yourself many a time. You only have yourself to blame.

Plus, why would any harm befall you? It's just words, right? It's not like you care about being PC (read: having courtesy toward others instead of calling people Dims, Liberals, Socialist, et. al.), so why should your words inflame a riot? OHHHHhhhhh, that's right: the whole Hitler analogy, like you compared to Obama.

Toldja before: extremism vs. extremism.

You could also always offer a little censorship by hitting that "Suggest Removal" linky, too, since you have no problem with censorship when it suits your needs. If not you, one of the flock is bound to.

LOL! Quakin'...seriously. Like I'm going to listen to Malkin, who's right up there with Coulter, except she doesn't seem to have an Adam's Apple.

Plus, you've given enough info for people to figure it out anyway. On top of that, you have no tolerance. If you did, you wouldn't be throwing out labels/names on everything. Tough Ti77y said the kitty. Bummer for you.

As long as we're bore bashing: Has anyone noticed that sbvore's "Challenge" is similar to a "Manifesto?" Google Ted Kaczynski, compare and contrast. And Kielbasa, be careful opening your snail mail!

LOL! Thanks for the heads-up, wissbecklarry! I'll wear NBC gear when I go to the box!

sbvor

It seems from your comments that you are afraid people would harm you if they knew who you are.

If this is true you really should take a look at yourself and stop writing things that you think can cause you harm.

I personally would never have thoughts of harming a person for what they wrote... but if you have this fear you should really get another hobby other than this website, or maybe some professional help.

Don't worry about me, I could care less what you write about.
