Steamboat Springs Kevin King, a 2007 graduate of Christian Heritage School, sustained minor injuries in the tornado-driven storms that swept across the Mid-South on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old freshman at Jackson, Tenn.'s Union University, was in the kitchen on the bottom floor of his dormitory in the heavily damaged Watters Complex when the storm hit, said his father, Kevin Sr., pastor at Anchor Way Baptist Church. Kevin, who did not hear any tornado alarms, was thrown across the room and sustained a gash on his leg.
"We're very thankful and fortunate that he's doing as well as he is," his father said.
Kevin is staying with friends in Memphis until classes resume, which has been postponed until at least Feb. 18. Students have been unable to return to their dormitories to collect their belongings.
"All he's got now is the shirt and shorts he had on," his father said.

Veterans Arts Festival coming up
Artwork by veterans enrolled as patients at the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Hospital will be on public display from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 20 and 21, during the medical center's annual arts festival.
"We estimate that more than 40 pieces of art from five divisions will be exhibited this year," said Donna DiGiacinto, event organizer.
The competition provides veterans receiving VA treatment an opportunity to participate in creative, therapeutic self-expression through methods including creative writing, dance, drama and music, and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments.
The entries will be judged Feb. 18 by local professional artists.
