Tom Ross: Plastic piccolos preferred by band

Martha Bender and Katie Haberlan played their piccolos in the Winter Carnival parade, and their lips survived to tell about it. As senior members of the Steamboat Springs High School skiing band back in 2004, Bender and Haberlan were participating in the 91st annual Winter Carnival. The two young ladies have been down Lincoln Avenue more than once in their careers. In fact, they've participated in the Winter Carnival parade four straight years. Winter Carnival marked a rite of passage of sorts - it was their last freezing cold parade.

Hayden nets pair of wins against Soroco

Hayden considers Precision annexation

The owner of Precision Excavating of Hayden has initiated the annexation process for a 15.89-acre hay meadow west of town with the hopes of keeping his business in Hayden while providing much-needed expanded facilities for the company. The annexation also would bring nearly 10 acres of U.S. Highway 40 right-of-way into the town.

City awarded energy grant

Money will go toward promoting more efficient homes

The city of Steamboat Springs announced Thursday that it has received a $2,500 matching grant from the Governor's Energy Office to promote the construction of energy-efficient homes.
