LIFT-UP meets $7K goal for matching donations

— After just two weeks, LIFT-UP of Routt County has reached its goal of $7,000 in matching donations for rent and mortgage assistance, bringing the total donations to more than $15,000.

LIFT-UP Executive Director David Freseman said the checks have been pouring in to meet the $7,000 challenge set by an anonymous local donor couple. The couple, who have lived in Steamboat Springs for five years, told Freseman they would donate as much as $7,000 in matching funds for rent assistance - if other donors would match it.

"It was exactly the kind of response he was hoping to elicit to help his funds stretch further to help people in need," Freseman said.

Freseman said all donations that come in after the $7,000 matching limit was reached still will be directed toward living assistance for Routt County residents.

The donations were particularly needed this year, Freseman said, because requests for rent and mortgage assistance are higher than ever.

In six weeks beginning Nov. 1, LIFT-UP granted rent or mortgage assistance to 34 individuals. In the same time period in June, there were just six.
