Oak Creek will not close Moffat Avenue for the winter, as was incorrectly reported in Saturday's Steamboat Today. The Oak Creek Town Board voted against closing off the town's longstanding unofficial sledding hill at its meeting Thursday.

Moffat Avenue has been closed in some past years in an attempt to create a safe sledding area in town, and residents were asked to park their vehicles off the road to eliminate safety obstacles.

Trustee Gerry Greenwood - who lives on the affected portion of the street - voted against the closure at Thursday's meeting. He said the town supporting an official closure creates an "attractive nuisance."

"This issue has been going on for 25 years," Greenwood said. "I've had kids sled off my roof, across my property : there's no stopping kids from doing what they want to do."

Other Town Board members felt that the safety risks would be greater if the town didn't designate Moffat Avenue as a traffic-free sledding area.

Volunteers sought for noxious weed board

Routt County is looking for volunteers interested in serving on the Routt County Noxious Weed Advisory Board. One board member will be chosen from the Steamboat area and one from Routt County at large.

Interested individuals should have some knowledge of the county's noxious weed problems. The board recommends to the County Commissioners what weeds should be on the noxious weed list and provides input on overall county weed control policy. The board meets an average of four times a year.

Volunteers needed for CHSAA ski race Friday
