Steamboat Springs The first snowflakes from a storm expected to persist through Tuesday morning have begun to fall in Steamboat Springs.
Steady snow is expected this afternoon and evening before potentially tapering off around midnight, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 50 percent chance of snow before 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The storm is expected to bring between 2 and 5 inches of snow to the city. Totals should be higher at the Steamboat Ski Area. A winter weather advisory is in effect for higher elevations. According to the advisory, there be total snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches in the Elkhead and Park Mountains, including over Rabbit Ears Pass. The advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday.
Hazardous driving conditions are expected over mountain passes.
Today's high temperature will be in the mid-30s, with tonight's low around 12 degrees. Temperatures will be lower tomorrow, with a daytime high of 25, and a nighttime low of 6 degrees. There will be partly sunny skies Wednesday before a chance of snow returns to the area Thursday. The National Weather Forecast is predicting a chance of snow Friday night through the weekend.
