Steamboat Springs — Rabbit Ears Pass and the Park Range were among the snowiest spots in the state Friday morning. But not the snowiest.
The official Rabbit Ears measuring station monitored by the Natural Resources Conservation Service at 9,400 feet on the west side of the pass read 31.4 inches of snow depth. The measurement reflects a couple of inches of snow settling since Thursday afternoon.
A snow measuring site about 60 miles east at Joe Wright Reservoir on Cameron Pass tops Rabbit Ears with 38 inches. Also ranking ahead of Steamboat's backyard backcountry is Independence Pass east of Aspen with 34.4 inches.
However, Wolf Creek Summit with 13.8 inches, and Red Mountain Pass north of Durango with 26.9 inches, were lagging behind.
Around Routt County, Dry Lake Campground at the foot of Buffalo Pass measured 30 inches. The automated site at the summit of Buff Pass wasn't producing a reading Friday morning. In North Routt, the Zirkel site at 9,340 feet was measuring 26.2 inches.
