Steamboat Springs In the midst of celebrating their 60th anniversary, members of the Steamboat Kiwanis Club have released their 27th collectible Christmas ornament.
This year's edition of the holiday bulb features an image of the historic Routt County Courthouse. The bulbs will sell for $7.
"The revenue generated is our major source of money to fund the projects we support within the community," club member Bud Romberg said.
The bulbs will be on sale daily beginning Friday at the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, 1255 South Lincoln Ave., and at many banks in town. For the next three weekends, collectors may purchase them from Kiwanis Club members who will be selling them at City Market and Safeway.
The major emphasis of Steamboat Kiwanis is to support youths and seniors. In commemoration of its 60th year in existence, the local club purchased $5,000 worth of playground equipment and provided many hours of service time to spruce up the playground at Young Tracks Preschool.
The Routt County Courthouse was completed in 1922, replacing quarters occupied for a decade in the Lorenz Building. That historic structure still stands four blocks west on Lincoln Avenue (next to Bob's Conoco).
Prior to that, from 1879 to 1912, the courthouse was located in the former county seat - Hahn's Peak Village in North Routt County.
