Jimmy Westlake: A dolphin, an arrow and a coat hanger
Two of my favorite constellations of late summer are two of the smallest in the whole sky. They aren't big and showy star patterns with lots of bright stars like Orion or the Big Dipper, but are, instead, small and compact and easy to spot only because of their distinctive shapes. They are Delphinus, the Dolphin, and Sagitta, the Arrow. The Dolphin and the Arrow are neatly tucked in under the wing of the nearby constellation of Aquila, the Eagle, marked by its bright star Altair.

Thomas Carter: McCain wrong
Imagine if there were less water available for raising Northwest Colorado's cattle and sheep. The added costs to Colorado agriculture for feed and water would be an additional tax on Colorado's ranchers, farmers and consumers. Yet a few days ago, John McCain said that the water-sharing compact that Colorado and other upper basin states have with California, Nevada and Arizona should be "renegotiated" to provide more water to Arizona and California. Apparently, McCain is more concerned about the golf courses and swimming pools of Arizona than he is about Colorado. McCain's policies would hurt Colorado. Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar, a water law expert, responded to McCain's proposal to give away Colorado's water by saying that the compact would be reopened "over my dead body."
Ray Cartwright: Gas prices unfair
I heard on KRAI that Ken Brenner has come out asking about the major differences in the gas prices between the towns in the valley. I seem to remember in the past, several investigations stated that there was no price fixing or gouging going on in the valley. Good for Mr. Brenner for asking the question; but I wonder why this hasn't been happening long before now. There might not be any way to prove any such thing, but shame on the local gas outlets for taking advantage of the working person that has to get out to the oil fields, mines, or the power plant.
