Old West Steak House under new ownership

— Marty Duran has taken over ownership of Old West Steak House from Don Silva. Duran said there wouldn't be major changes at the restaurant, though it has added a happy hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with specials on appetizers and alcoholic drinks. He said he has been in the restaurant business in Steamboat since 1979. He got out for a time, driving a taxi and a dump truck, but said he missed the industry.

Duran said that Old West's reputation had diminished of late and that he hoped to reverse the trend.

"For some locals, it used to be their favorite restaurant, and they stopped coming for whatever reason," he said. "We want to bring some of those locals back in."

The restaurant is at 1104 Lincoln Ave.

Restaurants in this town need to decide if they want to be known for consistent quality or just take unsuspecting tourists' money for mediocre food and bad service. Locals will sort that out for ya.
