VNA offers free infant immunizations

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association offers free infant immunizations for children 2 years old and younger by appointment Tuesday at the VNA clinic at 940 Central Park Drive, suite 101. Each infant also will receive a new book and an article of baby clothing. Please take your child's immunization record. Spanish speakers welcome.

National Infant Immunization Week, April 19 to 26, raises awareness about the importance of immunizing infants against vaccine-preventable diseases. Call 879-1632.

CMC Amnesty chapter sets up Darfur display

The Colorado Mountain College Alpine Campus chapter of Amnesty International has created a display to raise awareness about the genocidal crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. The display includes a constantly playing video, 1,000 memorials or tributes to people who have died or been displaced and a "Darfur Wall" where people can donate to United Nations efforts to save others. The display will be up until mid-May in the college library in Bristol Hall. Viewing is free and open to the public. The library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Call 870-4444.

Register by May 9 for Battle of the Bands

The fifth annual Teen Battle of the Bands is 9 p.m. May 16 at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. The event will feature teen bands from Routt and Moffat counties. Each band must have a three-song set. Local musicians and other sound experts will judge bands on originality, musicianship, sound, lyrics and appearance.

Bands must register by May 9 to participate. Registration forms are available at the office of the city's Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department at 245 Howelsen Pkwy or on the Web at www.steamboatsprings.net/rec. Return completed forms to the city office or e-mail to blightner@steamboatsprings.net.

Teen Battle of the Bands is sponsored by the city of Steamboat Springs Teen Programs, the Steamboat Pilot & Today, The Local and Z Rock. Contact Teen Programs at 879-4300 for more.

Chamber announces Home & Garden Expo

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association presents the first Home and Garden Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. The event is sponsored by Vivid FX Concrete Coatings. Chamber members in the home and garden industry are invited to exhibit. Booth space costs $100. The deadline to register is May 5.
