— The Steamboat Springs High School soccer team, the No. 4 team from the Western Slope League, will travel to a playoff match against No. 5 seed Greeley Central on Tuesday.

The Colorado High School Activities Association released the brackets for the Class 4A state soccer tournament Sunday, ranking the Sailors 28th out of the 32 teams selected.

Greeley Central comes into the game with a 12-3 record and a top-10 ranking. The team finished second in the Northern 4A league, behind state No. 1 Broomfield.

If Steamboat advances out of the first round, the Sailors will play the winner of the Denver South-Pueblo East game.

The Western Slope's top seeded team, Montrose - who drops down from Class 5A - received a No. 8 seed. Battle Mountain, the second team out of the Western Slope, locked up a home game with the No. 11 seed.

While the High School Activities Association didn't release district volleyball pairings, Steamboat Springs coach Wendy Hall said it appears the Sailors will be put in one of the toughest districts for the playoffs.

Steamboat currently is expected to draw a No. 4 seed in District 8. The tournament likely will include No. 1 seed and tournament host Montrose; No. 2 seed Regis, ranked sixth in the state; and No. 3 seed Moffat County, who finished second in the Western Slope ahead of Steamboat and currently is ranked No. 10 in the state.

The fifth and sixth seeds in the district will be at-large selections.

As the bracket stands now, Steamboat volleyball would play the No. 6 seed first, then Montrose in pool play.

The top two teams advance from pool play into a cross-bracketing section where the teams will play the top two teams from the other pool.

If Steamboat makes it to the cross-bracketing portion, the team most likely would have to beat Moffat County or Regis to advance to regionals.
