Jake Schwan: Trucker friendly
Advertisement
Recently, I viewed a headline in the Steamboat Pilot & Today reading, Steamboat "bike friendly," referring to bicyclists. After some thought, I reached a conclusion. In observing the bike lanes, I estimate that approximately one-sixth of our highways are used daily by the pedal pushers. Admittedly, they put little wear on these lanes. The initial cost of construction, however, is immense.
Who foots the bill? The folks who ride motorcycles and small vehicles pay some. But the brunt of it lays in the wallets of the truckers, coming to billions nationwide annually.
Many of my good friends pump the pedals. In speaking with them, I have found none who will resent paying a $10 or $12 fee annually. What say we address a headline saying "Trucker friendly Steamboat"?
