Craig With October being the traditional start of the flu season, the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association has three core tactics in preventing the flu.
Always wash your hands, keep your household surfaces disinfected where germs and bacteria collect and get yourself and your family vaccinated.
On average every year, roughly 5 to 20 percent of the population nationwide gets the flu, while more than 200,000 people are hospitalized and about 36,000 die, according to www.CDC.gov, Center for Disease Control's Web site.
That's why the VNA will be launching its yearly flu shot campaign Monday in Routt County and Tuesday in Moffat County.
There will be no restrictions, and supplies are not limited. The cost for adult flu injections are $22, Intra Nasal Flu Mist doses are $25, and children's injections are $14 or less.
The VNA is expecting to administer more than 3,000 doses this year in Moffat and Routt counties. Last year, 1,500 doses were administered in Craig alone, said Suzi Mariano, VNA public information coordinator.
"We will have enough vaccinations to accommodate the Craig community," Mariano said.
The initial figures are subject to change as the VNA adjusts to community response, she said.
The clinic is expected to be busy early and people are encouraged to check for drop-in times and schedule appointments early.
The VNA offers a drop-in clinic at the Craig office with times for certain age groups listed on the web site or in the paper. Appointments are available by calling 824-8233.
