Paula Ninger: 'Across the Universe' doesn't disappoint

Steamboat Springs The creators of "Across the Universe" faced a great challenge.
Not only did they have to recreate the '60s era, but they also had to remake songs by The Beatles without butchering them. And this film does an excellent job of setting the mood for that time period and adding musical style.
"Across the Universe" takes place during the "hippie" era, when people were protesting the Vietnam War. An English man named Jude (Jim Sturgess) visits America and meets many new people. Jude becomes friends with a college student, Max (Joe Anderson), and falls in love with Max's sister (Evan Rachel Wood).
When Max is drafted into the Army, they understand the true crisis of war. The movie tells a tale of how these young adults fought for peace and protested the ongoing war.
Another hardship the producers faced was their desire to take The Beatles' music and make it their own. It's amazing what they've done with it.
No one can ever truly reconstruct the magic The Beatles created; however, these performers sing the music in a fresh and spectacular way.
Some of the most well-done songs on the soundtrack are "Let It Be," "Hey Jude" and "All You Need Is Love." The movie is named after the song "Across the Universe" from The Beatles' last album, "Let It Be."
If you haven't seen "Across the Universe," take the time out of your day and see it. You won't be disappointed.
