Thanksgiving dinner donations needed
Routt County United Way and Wells Fargo Bank are sponsoring the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Holy Name Catholic Church at 524 Oak Street. All are welcome. The sponsors are in need of prepared food donations including turkeys, mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry salads and desserts. Teen of the Month nominations sought
The Steamboat Springs Optimist Club is accepting applications for its Teen of the Month program. Area high school students can pick up applications from school counselors or call Rob MacCarthy at 871-7179. The Teen of the Month program culminates in a recognition dinner in May for all of the teens and their parents, and a scholarship is awarded to the student chosen as Teen of the Year.
Patriotism exhibit open in Oak Creek
The Tracks and Trails Museum, on Main Street in Oak Creek, has opened its "Patriotism in the Upper Yampa Valley: On the Home Front during World War II" exhibit, which depicts how local civilians responded to the war effort during World War II. Learn how patriotism played a key role in rallying the community and nation for victory. The exhibit runs through January 2008.
Energy assistance available through program
The Routt County Department of Human Services is accepting applications for its Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LEAP, through April 30, 2008. LEAP is a federally funded program designed to help low-income households meet their winter home heating costs; it does not pay the entire cost of home heating.
Household income may not exceed 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The maximum monthly income for a one-person household is $1,574. Applications can be picked up at the Human Services office, 135 Sixth Street in downtown Steamboat Springs. For information call Ruth Ann at 879-1540, or 1-866-432-8435.
